CJ Takes a Dive!
Since I don’t plot my novels ahead of time, I’m often as surprised by the twists and turns they take as readers are (at least I hope they are!). This means that the areas I end up researching tend to lead me in new and interesting directions.
Take for instance, a trip to Toledo while I was finishing WARNING SIGNS. I was invited to give a few presentations at a medical conference and while I was in town, I begged a favor from an old colleague, and received not only a tour of their new Emergency Department, but also a tour of their hyperbaric chamber.
What fun! The nurses there were not only knowledgable, but were also delighted to help me plot various nefarious plot twists using the chamber.
They even let me climb into one to see how easy and hard it would be to get in and out. Wow! Never knew I might have a touch of claustrophobia until I was locked inside that tiny torpedo-tube!
I owe them a debt for helping me to make Amanda’s adventures as authentic as possible–and as with all research, any errors are mine.
Thanks for reading!
CJ
